Course Description
This 3-hour interactive course explores how Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy can be used with a culturally responsive lens to support women of color experiencing trauma. Participants will learn how systemic oppression, cultural narratives, and personal trauma intersect and leave with trauma-informed strategies rooted in self-compassion, IFS, and social work values.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

Identify how systemic, personal, and cultural trauma impacts women of color and contributes to misdiagnosis and mischaracterization of symptoms.

Apply Internal Family Systems (IFS) concepts—including Self-energy and the 8 C’s—to support trauma recovery in marginalized clients.

Describe how core social work values such as empathy, inclusion, and social justice can be integrated into trauma-informed care within clinical social work practice.

Engage in an experiential exercise to explore and respond to internal parts that become activated in work with this population, fostering practitioner self-awareness and cultural responsiveness.
